There are a lot of things overlooked, unrecognized, and passed by in our daily lives. A
reciprocity exists between objects and materials that has allowed me to re-communicate
value and my understanding of their worth. How do we decide whether things are
essential or excessive? I make and collect objects to create and connect my own ideas of
identity. I make work to create the next series of questions.
I am interested in what dictates our understanding of value, class, and cultural identity.
Our histories, regardless of one’s self-awareness, continue to inform creative and
personal decision-making. I am translating my understanding of the objects that is
unstated but has an understood value that I find by reflecting on their aesthetic
relationships and social ideals. Like in our homes and neighborhoods, a kinship exists
between objects. Identity and values evolve locally, alongside others who identify in a
similar fashion. By questioning ourselves we are really questioning our surroundings.
